Solution
Wind measurement
Wind sensors for harbours, construction sites, research and weather stations. We choose between ultrasonic and propeller sensors to suit the site and the task – with heating where ice and rime would otherwise stop the measurement.
What we measure
Wind is more than an average. We set up the measurement for what it will be used for.
Mean wind and gusts
Wind speed as averages and gusts, calculated in the logger to your requirements.
Wind direction
High-resolution direction as input for dispersion, safety and statistics.
Heated sensors
Sensors that cope with ice, rime and cold – for mountains, coasts and winter.
Wind at several heights
Sensors at different levels on a mast, for wind profiles and temperature stratification.
Turbulence and 3D wind
Fast ultrasonic sensors measuring the wind in three dimensions for research.
High-wind alarms
Thresholds that raise an alarm when the wind gets too strong for cranes, ships or work at height.
What your data can look like
A wind rose shows where the wind comes from and how strong it is, compiled from the station’s measurements. Point at a direction to see the breakdown.

How we deliver
The same person follows your station from the first sketch to service.
Design
Choice of sensor and height, open exposure and mounts that withstand the wind.
Installation
Installation on a mast, roof or crane, with the direction checked against north.
Data collection
Data and alarms via telemetry to our data collection systems and on to your system or a live data page.
Service
Checks and sensor exchange under an agreement, and remote troubleshooting.
Equipment we use
We distribute two leading wind sensor manufacturers and choose what suits the site.
- United Kingdom
Gill Instruments
Ultrasonic anemometers such as WindSonic, WindObserver and WindMaster, including versions for hazardous areas.
- USA
R.M. Young
Wind Monitor propeller sensors and ultrasonic sensors, including models for marine use.
- USA
Campbell Scientific
Data loggers that calculate averages, gusts and alarms in the station itself.
Frequently asked questions
Ultrasonic or propeller?
Ultrasonic sensors have no moving parts and handle short time steps. Propeller sensors are robust and proven. The choice depends on the site, the climate and your requirements, and we help you decide.
How high should the sensor be?
The standard height for meteorological wind measurement is ten metres above ground, clear of obstacles. For other purposes we choose the height for what the measurement should show.
Do the sensors cope with ice and snow?
With heated sensors and the right siting, the measurement keeps working when ice builds up, for example in the mountains and along the coast.
