Solution

Current, waves and wind in the harbour

Measurement systems showing the current at the quay, the water level, the waves and the wind in real time – for pilots, masters and port staff. Up-to-date values make port calls and mooring safer. During dredging we monitor turbidity around the works, with alarms before the limits are reached.

Detail from our example map. All values are made up.

What we measure

We choose the measurements for the harbour’s conditions and the decisions the values should support.

  • Current

Current meters at the quay or pier measuring the speed and direction of the current.

  • Water level

Radar sensors measuring the level without touching the water.

  • Waves

Wave height and period where the sea state affects work in the harbour.

  • Wind

Marine wind sensors that withstand salt, with gusts and high-wind alarms.

  • Visibility

Visibility sensors that show when the fog rolls in.

  • Ships on the map

Ships in the fairway from AIS, shown on a chart-like map on a live data page.

  • Turbidity during dredging

Turbidity sensors on buoys or fixed frames around the dredging, with alarms before the limits are reached.

What your data can look like

The speed and direction of the current at the pier over a day, as pilots and masters see it.

How we deliver

The same person follows your station from the first sketch to service.

  1. Design

Review of the harbour’s needs, siting of sensors and communication.

  2. Installation

Installation on the quay, pier or a mast, with equipment that withstands salt and ice.

  3. Data collection

Data via telemetry to the port’s systems and a continuously updated live data page.

  4. Service

Service under an agreement and remote troubleshooting.

Frequently asked questions

Can the values be shown to pilots and masters?

Yes. We build live data pages that work on a phone on the bridge and on a large screen in the control room, with a map and ships from AIS.

How often are the values updated?

That is chosen for your needs. Current and wind are often shown at intervals of a few minutes.

Does the equipment cope with salt and ice?

We choose sensors and materials for the marine environment and place them where they are protected but easy to service.
