Solution

Solar radiation measurement

Pyranometers, pyrheliometers and sun trackers for meteorology, climate research and solar parks. We build stations that measure global, direct and diffuse radiation – and keep them clean, calibrated and running.

Detail from our example map. All values are made up.

What we measure

From a single pyranometer to complete stations on sun trackers.

  • Global radiation

Total solar radiation on a horizontal surface, measured with a pyranometer.

  • Direct radiation

Radiation straight from the solar disc, measured with a pyrheliometer on a sun tracker.

  • Diffuse radiation

Radiation from the sky, measured with a pyranometer shaded by the tracker’s shading ball.

  • Plane-of-array radiation

A pyranometer tilted like the solar panels, to follow up a solar park.

  • Sunshine duration

Calculated from the direct radiation, for climate statistics.

  • Supporting measurements

Temperature, wind and precipitation needed to interpret radiation data.

What your data can look like

Global radiation on a summer day, with the daily total calculated from the same series.

How we deliver

The same person follows your station from the first sketch to service.

  1. Design

Shade-free siting, choice of sensor class and set-up.

  2. Installation

Installation, levelling and alignment of sun trackers.

  3. Data collection

Data via telemetry to our data collection systems, with values checked before they are passed on.

  4. Service

Cleaning, calibration as recommended by the manufacturer, and troubleshooting.

Frequently asked questions

Which pyranometer do we need?

It depends on what the measurement is for. We help you choose a class under ISO 9060 to match your accuracy requirements and budget.

How often do the sensors need calibrating?

We follow the manufacturer’s recommendation and plan the calibration so that the data series isn’t broken.

Can you measure at an existing solar park?

Yes. We add sensors for radiation and temperature and route the data to your monitoring system.
